Things are getting close with the novel! I feel that I'm on the final push- still a lot to do but I can see the light at the end of the tunnel. I was hoping to have a complete first draft at this time, but considering all of the distractions of the holidays and picking up some unexpected work from MLB, I'm not too far off of schedule. I'm currently 38 chapters in- I have no idea how that equates to real world numbers of pages or total words at the moment, but I don't think you'll be cheated.
It's been an interesting process. While I've stayed true to the heart of the story and it will eventually reach the end I originally intended, the middle took a few unexpected turns that I would have never predicted until in the middle of writing. I have no idea if it will transcend. That's my biggest fear as writer in general- I have these great ideas, I have such a full and colorful story in my mind, but I have no idea if I'm communicating that to the reader.
I've moved forward with a lot of the legal concerning the book. Once edited, there shouldn't be much to hold up publishing.
In other news, the muses are at work and the list of other books / story ideas keeps growing. Some are fun, some are nerdy, and there is one that I think will be really good. So much so that I might take a break from the Final Book series to work on it. We shall see- I need to stop getting ahead of myself!
Yay 2014!
Oh, on a completely unrelated note- I'm sick of stock photography. Hit me up if you're artist or photographer.
Oh yeah, write anyone who will listen (congressman, senator, FCC, etc) and tell them to fix Net Neutrality. This whole thing is just crazy and blows my mind.
So, for those of you that pay close attention, yes- this project is still very much alive! I know it's been a while since I've updated, let me get you up to speed.
First off, the reason things slowed down is because I ran off and played baseball all last year. Okay, I didn't "play" but it was about as close as you could get. Amazing experience that will eventually be developed into another book- a nice little "tell all" of the inner workings of Major League Baseball. However, with that going on, I didn't have much time on my hands to push forward with this book. Rest assured, that may have been the best thing because the story has grown tremendously in my mind and I feel has gotten A LOT better.
There is now an official title- The Final Book will be name of the series and the first installment will be Gods. The series will without a doubt be at least a trilogy, with the ability for spin-offs or a continuation should I not get sick of this world. I have a pretty solid outline for all three books, though I expect it to change as the story develops (just how that works).
I am currently 24 chapters into the first book, the remaining portion is "act 3" where things come to a pretty epic head and a lot is revealed for the following books. I've halted forward progress on the book and have returned to the beginning for an extensive rewrite / review. Once I get caught up, it should make the final draft a breeze.
To keep from going insane from looking at white word processing screen all day, I've also begun development on a website for the book. The website will be an extension of the series and an additional "experience" to go along with the books. The website will be very rich with content and provide a lot background or side stories not in the books. To be honest, it's pretty large undertaking and has taken a lot more time than I anticipated. However, I think it will be really cool once it's done and be a very unique experience for the reader / fan. The site will also be highly visual and I hope to incorporate some fan art- I think that'd be a fun way to show appreciation and get people involved in the world.
So, that's the update since we last talked. 12 chapter deeper with a strong, workable draft so far. There is an official title- The Final Book: Gods. And, a website in the works to be released when the first book drops.
Speaking of drops… I'm not prepared to give a release date yet. You'll just have to hang in there… Expect more regular progress updates and teasers though.

50's inspired "atomic age" artwork has been near and dear to our hearts for many years. From our fascination with The Venture Bros. to random road trips to Roswell, New Mexico, our love for shinny lights in the sky and super science has inspired our own functional artwork and sculptures. Recycling old electronics and junk laying around the house, our robots and lunar landers either blast music, works as lamp, or a clever nightlight for those afraid of the dark.
Sean announces that he is working on a novel. The book is a far departure from his Chuck Klosterman style pop culture articles and the novel takes on a winding tale of mythology, theology, and science fiction that combines important historical events leaving the reader questioning truth from fantasy. Resurrecting the Greek Gods into the modern age and reinventing the world as we know it, the book promises to be a fresh, thought provoking thriller.
Sean talking about the upcoming book in his own words:
"I'm really excited about this project, the story is so clear in my mind. The challenge now is finding the motivation and time to get it out of there! I'm currently 12 chapters in, most of the characters have been introduced and the background laid out, now it's time to rip the world upside down!
Kind of like with the rest of my art, this story is adaptation of things you already know and I warp my own story into it. I take things that are familiar to humanity- classic Greek tales and characters, Christianity, major historic events, and I combine them all into this modern sci-fi story. Just because I'm incorporating hugely significant cultural figures, some may find it controversial or offensive... I just hope the story itself transcends and can be received with an open mind.
It will probably be a while before you can get your hands on a copy. Not only do I have to finish the book, which is looking like it will turn into a trilogy, but I'm also shopping publishers. The story has the possibility of being adapted to screenplay, so that's also something to consider. You can rest assured though, if I meet much resistance along the way I'll just put the book up online for the world to read for free. Getting it in people's hands is the most important thing.
I'll keep you guys posted with artwork, titles, and updates as things develop. As always, thanks so much for the support!"
